eSIM troubleshooting
Most issues are a quick settings fix. Work through the relevant one below. Still stuck? Email support@esimul.comwith your order reference and we'll help fast.
My eSIM won't install or the QR code won't scan+
Install over a stable Wi-Fi connection, ideally before you travel.
- Turn up screen brightness on the device showing the QR, or open your order page on a second screen.
- If scanning fails, install manually: Settings → Cellular/Mobile → Add eSIM → Enter details manually, then type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your order page or email.
- Each QR code and activation code works once only, so never delete an eSIM you've already installed, as it can't be added back. If you've already deleted one, email us rather than re-trying the same code.
My eSIM is installed but I have no internet at my destination+
This is the most common one, usually a settings toggle:
- Turn Data Roaming ON for the Esimul line. iPhone: Settings → Cellular → (your Esimul plan) → Data Roaming ON. Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → (Esimul) → Roaming ON. This is required for travel eSIMs and does not cause extra charges.
- Set the Esimul line as your data line. iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data → select the Esimul plan. Turn OFF “Allow Cellular Data Switching”.
- Your plan activates when you arrive and connect to a local network, not while you're still at home.
No service / no network showing+
- Restart your phone after arriving at your destination.
- Toggle Airplane mode on for 15 seconds, then off.
- Select a network manually: turn OFF automatic network selection and pick a supported carrier from the list.
- Make sure the Esimul line is enabled/turned on in your cellular settings.
My eSIM is stuck on "Activating" on my iPhone+
This is usually normal, not a fault.Your plan doesn't start until you reach your destination, so an eSIM often shows Activating…until it connects to a local network. Once you land and it registers on a supported carrier there, it activates on its own and switches to your plan. If you're still at home, or your flight has only just landed, give it time.
If it's still stuck on Activating…after you've arrived and been connected for a while, work through these steps in order:
- Make sure you're online. While installing, stay on stable Wi-Fi; after you arrive, the eSIM needs to reach a local mobile network to finish activating.
- Give it a few minutes. Lock the phone, wait 2–3 minutes, then wake it and check again before doing anything else.
- Restart your iPhone. Power it fully off and back on. This alone resolves most stuck activations.
- Toggle Airplane mode. Turn it on for about 15 seconds, then off, to force the line to re-register.
- Update iOS. Go to Settings → General → Software Update and install any pending update, then check the eSIM again.
- Do not delete the eSIM. An activation code can only be used once, so deleting the profile is permanent. It cannot be re-installed, and the plan is lost with it. If none of the steps above worked, email support@esimul.comwith your order reference. We can see your eSIM's status from our side and, if it really is faulty, issue you a replacement profile. Only remove the old one once we've told you to.
Data is slow or keeps dropping+
- Manually switch to a different available network (some carriers are stronger in certain areas).
- Reset network settings (Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Reset → Reset Network Settings), then reconnect.
- Toggle Airplane mode off/on to re-attach to the tower.
I need to set the APN+
Most plans configure automatically. If data still won't work after enabling roaming, set the APN your plan uses (shown with your plan details) under Settings → Cellular → (Esimul plan) → Cellular Data Network → APN. Leave username/password blank unless specified.
How do I check my remaining data?+
Log in and open My account. Each eSIM shows how much data is left, how many days remain and its current status. Tap Refresh for the latest figures. When a plan runs out, simply buy a new one; some plans also support top-ups.
Is my phone compatible?+
You need an eSIM-capable and carrier-unlocked phone (most iPhones from XS onward, Google Pixel 3+, and recent Samsung Galaxy flagships). Dial *#06#. If an EID number is listed, your device supports eSIM.
When should I install and activate?+
Install before you travel, over Wi-Fi. Installing does not start your plan. The data allowance and validity begin when you arrive and first connect to a network at your destination.
